Word: Plagiarism

This is a tough one! Plagiarism has similarity to the word “Plague” that is used to refer to an infectious disease that we need to stay away from. Likewise, we also need to stay away from stealing, cheating, piracy, and well, plagiarism.

Word: Punctilious

Punctilious should remind you of punctures – small holes in tyres – that result in the release of air from the tyre. A punctilious person will not permit any such puncture or hole in his or her work that can result in compromising his or her quality of work.

Word: Prosaic

“Prose” is defined as “ordinary writing”. And ordinary is boring, unimaginative, uninspiring. So, “Prosaic” is anything which reminds you of a lengthy piece of writing in which you are being unable to generate any interest.

Word: Insipid

Suppose you go to a party. Now in that party, you are not allowed to “sip”any drink. No drinks allowed. No soda, no beer. Sorry. Just imagine how dull and lifeless that party would be! The “sip” in “Insipid” should remind you of such a party.
